- Check your gap around the full joint. Aim for 1/16 inch or less before welding.

Coping Pipe at an Angle
How to cope a pipe at an angle follows the same principle, but the geometry of the cut changes. At 90 degrees, the cope profile is symmetrical. At any angle other than 90 degrees, one side of the cut is longer than the other. The more acute the angle, the more asymmetrical the profile gets.
